I took my parents here and we had a great time. Service was off the charts good, food was great and decent portions too. We will definitely be back. Try Akvavit after your meal. ;)

I wanted to say that in many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends. I was surprised but last night, I experienced something new, an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Lavastein's, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in Kassel. I will be returning to Lavastein's soon, hungry for more.

If your looking for a place to really enjoy food in Kassel, this homey, intimate restaurant it the best place for you!!! After one and a half years in Germany, it was first time we have enjoyed eating in a restaurant...The staff is warm and inviting, perfect hospitality and great food made with lots of love...Food was fresh and soooo tasty....price is fare trade, WC are clean. The place is children friendly and great for families...They were flexible with my vegetarian wife and made special dishes for her...Highly Recommended!!

Nice atmosphere, nice and friendly staff. I ordered the Grillteller, and everything was amazing! They had some sort of homemade kartoffelrosti that was out of this world! Highly recommend!

Very friendly service, the food is so delicious and really homemade taste; the place is small but cozy, clean and good located; their homemade schnitzels make you feel like have a really delicious German food and a very fair price.

The food is fabulous. Every dish is a wow. The staff are fantastic. Definitely will visit again when back to kassel
